Mobile, Ala. (WKRG) – As of 5:15 AM this morning, the severe weather threat for the Gulf Coast has come to an end. We will see cloudy skies throughout the rest of the day with highs warm in the 70s. Cooler air behind the cold front will settle in overnight, dropping our lows back into the 40s. Sunshine will be back for your Sunday with highs in the 60s.

The First Alert Storm Team is monitoring a threat for severe thunderstorms as we move into the weekend. This active weather could impact several big events on the Gulf Coast.

A TORNADO WATCH is in effect until 10 AM for Baldwin and Escambia Counties in Alabama and all Northwest Florida Counties.

TIMING

The first batch of rain and storms will move out of the region, but new thunderstorms are forecast to develop along and ahead of the approaching cold front.

This second window of potential severe weather will begin around midnight and continue through 7 AM Saturday morning. The rain and storms will be out by the time the big weekend festivals begin.

HAZARDS

The main weather hazards through Saturday morning will be damaging wind gusts 60-70 mph. A brief tornado will also be possible as storms move west to east.

WHAT TO DO

There remains some uncertainty regarding how this event will play out. You should review your severe weather plan with your family. You should also download the FREE WKRG weather app. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team will keep you updated through the rest of the week.
